New Director Appointed
lan Horvath, artistic director of Cleveland Ballet, announces the appointment of Dierdre Myles, Yliana Lopez and Franklin Gamero to the company.
Ms. Myles, a native of Boston, began studying dance at the Boston School of Ballet, and has also studied with Maggie Black and Gabrielle Darvash in New York. Upon her graduation from high school, she joined the Boston Ballet, immediately performing principal roles, and then joined Dennis Wayne's Dancers in New York City, where she danced many contemporary and modern roles.
In 1978 Ms. Myles became a soloist with the Houston Ballet, where her roles ranged from Doris Humphrey's modern Water Study to Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. She has also danced Balanchine's Tchaikovsky's Pas de Deux, and Anita and the Mad Woman in Ben

Yliana Lopez and Franklin Gamero, both natives of Valencia, Venezuela, trained at the School of Ballet of Valencia under the direction of Nine Nikanrova, Erik Volodin and Inna Lubkovskya. Both then won a scholarship to the San Francisco Ballet School, and both later danced with the Teresa Carreno Company.
Both Ms. Lopez and Mr. Gamero participated in the IV International Ballet Competition in Moscow and the Seminar of Dance, in Valencia, and in addition, Ms. Lopez competed in the II Seminar of Dance and the IX International Ballet Competition, both held in Varna, Bulgaria.
Ms. Myles, Ms. Lopez and Mr. Gamero will join the Cleveland Ballet for its seventh professional season, opening Friday, October 15 at the Hanna Theatre.
